Kent Flower Tour Mountain, Protea on Flower tour and Bird

Springtime is Whale time! During the spring months of July, August, September, October and November, the enormous Southern Right and Humpback Whales are to be seen all along our coastline, The whales migrate from the Antarctic regions to the warmer Waters found along our Cape Coastline at the beginning of the season in order to mate or calve, after which they return southwards.

This Explorer Tour that takes us along the N2 motorway to the little coastal village of Gordons Bay. From here we travel all along the Coastline, following the visually stunning Clarens Drive where the mountains and the sea clash dramatically forming wondrous rock formations festooned with continuous feathers of spray and, of course, keep our eyes peeled for Whales!.  After passing through the villages of Rooiels and Betty’s Bay, where we stop for tea and explore the Harold Porter Botanical Garden, we continue through Kleinmond, Hawston and Onrus until we come to Hermanus. This coastal town is a whale watchers paradise as it is here that one finds the greatest concentration of whales, specifically in Walker Bay, which is a declared marine whale reserve.

Our tour takes us up into the mountains overlooking Hermanus, from where we can pinpoint the position of the whales, enabling us to go directly to where they are and ensuring that you get the very best opportunities to view these fabulous sea mammals from the shore. You will also have the option of going on a boat-based whale watching excursion which could lead to an extremely exciting up close and personal encounter with these massive but gentle creatures.

We depart Hermanus for our return journey to Cape Town following the N2 through the rustic apple, pear, apricot, and plum orchards centered around the highland village of Grabouw before descending the Sir Lowry’s Pass to Somerset West and on to Cape Town and the end of a tour filled with unforgettable experiences!
